Where To Get Wide-Nose Rhinoplasty in Bangkok

Nose-reshaping or rhinoplasty surgery, usually done to reshape a broad or wide nose, is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in Bangkok.

While the primary function of our nose is to enable us to smell and breathe, because our nose is the center of our face and one of the first features to be noticed, its appearance can impact our self-confidence and body image. Hence, many people who want to reshape their noses opt to get nose surgery.

What is Wide-Nose Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is also more commonly known as a nose job. It is often a cosmetic procedure to reshape the nose to make it appear thinner or narrower while maintaining its functionality in cases where it is deemed too wide for the face.

The cause of a wide nose is typically a combination of genetics and evolution. A low nasal bridge or bone, which is often genetic, may cause a nose to look broader. If you have family members with wide noses, then chances are high that you also have one. Moreover, people with ancestors from places with warmer climates tend to have broader noses than people with ancestors from colder climates, who tend to have narrower noses because it’s more efficient in warming and humidifying the cold, dry air. A wide nose can also be caused by previous injury or trauma which caused the nasal area to widen.

In general, rhinoplasty can also be done to address a number of issues, such as having a dorsal hump or a hump on the nose, a nose that’s too narrow, nostrils that are too broad, or a nasal bridge that’s too high or too low. In some cases, nose surgery is needed to help improve breathing.

However, when done for cosmetic reasons, such as in wide-nose surgery, this surgical procedure aims to create facial balance by reshaping the nose to look more harmonious with the rest of your features.

How Do You Reshape a Wide Nose?

The first step before getting a rhinoplasty is to consult a cosmetic surgeon. Your doctor will discuss your goals, explain the whole procedure, and inform you of any risks involved.

What happens during the procedure is a restructuring of the nasal bone, which forms the pyramid structure of the nose and determines your nose’s shape. In rhinoplasty, the surgeon will fracture the upper nasal bone into smaller, movable pieces through a precise process called osteotomy to reshape the nasal bridge.

There are two common types of nasal osteotomies: medial and lateral. While the medial osteotomy fractures the middle portion of the top of the nose, the lateral osteotomy breaks the longer outer sections of the nasal septum bone. Many wide-nose rhinoplasty cases apply both techniques to create a narrower nose bridge.

Because the breaks must be small and precise, this procedure must be done by a trained and experienced rhinoplasty surgeon.

There are two surgical methods applied in rhinoplasty: open and closed. The open or external method is better for cases where the tip needs to be reshaped. In the open procedure, a tiny incision along the columella, the tissue that divides the two nostrils, is made, allowing access to the underlying structure of the nose. As a result, the incision will require tiny stitches.

Meanwhile, a closed or endonasal method is performed inside the nose, giving less access to the nose’s internal structure and leaving minimal to no visible scarring. This approach is more appropriate for patients who want minor reshaping, such as just the upper portion of their nose.

What is Post-surgery Care and Recovery Like?

Recovery time depends on the type and extent of the procedure. The surgery is performed under anesthesia, and afterwards, the patient will have to wear a nasal cast for a certain duration to ensure proper healing.

During recovery, the surgical area, including the eyes and cheeks, will be tender, bruised, and appear larger than normal due to swelling. It’s recommended that patients sleep with their head elevated to reduce swelling, limit sodium intake, sun exposure, and any strenuous activities that may strain the nose. Patients must also avoid alcohol and nicotine products before and after the surgery.

After the first week, the patient must visit the clinic to have stitches, splints, and casts removed or replaced. Healing of incisions may take up to eight weeks, however, expect regular check-ups with your surgeon within the first year after the procedure to ensure that the entire nose area is healing well and to address any concerns.
