Facelifts can provide dramatic results.

How Long Do Facelifts Last?

For many years, facelifts were seen as a procedure reserved for people of an advanced age who wanted to appear up to a decade younger than they were. However, in recent years, more people in their prime are also choosing to have facelift surgery. Facelift surgery in Thailand is an increasingly popular way to slow aging. We'll discuss how long facelifts can last and look at the growing phenomenon of young people opting for facelift surgery.

Realities of Aging

Long ago, it used to be that people would try to hide the fact they’d had a facelift. Celebrities and business leaders would disappear from public view until they recovered completely from facelift surgery and were ready to face the public again. It was somehow seen as trying to cheat the natural process of aging.

The reality is that nothing can completely stop the aging process. No facelift is a permanent solution. A modern facelift can last for around 15 years or so. It can be extended for a few years depending on whether the patient takes good care of their skin, eats well, doesn’t consume too much alcohol, wears sunscreen when outdoors, and keeps the skin moisturized.

Increasing Popularity of Facelifts

Facelift surgery is becoming a popular option for people in their 40s and early 50s. They’ve learned that people who’ve waited until their 60s and 70s to undergo surgery face more complicated procedures. The older the facelift patient, the greater the amount of tissue repositioning and the longer the recovery time.

People in their 30s are watching for the first signs of aging to appear and have popularized nonsurgical treatments like Botox®. By their early 40s, they want a lengthier solution to their noticeable aging. Facelift surgery lasts longer than continued Botox® injections. It makes the most sense for someone concerned about their appearance and the additional recovery time as they get older.

Facelifts in Thailand

The popularity of facelifts in Thailand is also enjoying a boost because of medical tourism. It’s become a facet of the tourism industry. For a decade or more, many people from around the world have come to Thailand to have medical procedures performed because of the lower prices and the higher medical standards that Thailand offers in many cases.

A vacation in Thailand is the perfect opportunity to have a facelift performed. Travelers can relax in their hotels and resorts while they heal. In many cases, they can return home after spending as little as half of what they would've spent at home having the same procedure performed.

Face and Necklift Procedure

Before your surgery, you’ll be advised about any regular medications you’ll need to stop taking temporarily, particularly blood thinning medications. You’ll be requested to stop eating after midnight the night before your procedure. You’ll also be asked to wash your hair and face with a germicidal soap the morning of your procedure to reduce any chance of infection. You’ll still be able to drink water and take medications approved by your doctor.

Face and necklift procedures generally take from 2 to 4 hours under general anesthesia at our clinic in Bangkok. The anesthesia may leave you groggy and unable to drive, so please arrange a ride home after your surgery.

The face and neck lift procedure consists of elevating and tightening the face and neck skin, tissue, and muscles. Fat deposits on the neck and face may be sculpted, repositioned, or completely removed. The skin is then laid over the resculpted contours of the face and trimmed to fit the face. Sutures are then used to hold the skin in place until healing has started.

The facelift begins with incisions that are hidden in the hairline along your temples. The incisions continue down in front of the ears and wrap around behind the ears and into the lower scalp. The incisions for the necklift begin in front of the earlobes and extend around the ears and into the lower scalp. The neck lift procedure also includes a small incision under the chin.

After the surgery, you may have mild to moderate pain and experience drainage from the incisions. You also may experience numbness around the sutures that will disappear after 2-4 months.

You'll be instructed to rest on your back with your head elevated and be prescribed pain medication. Expect to experience bruising and swelling as you begin to heal. This is completely normal, and cold packs can be used to reduce both the bruising and swelling. Contact the doctor immediately if you have any serious pain on one side of your face or neck or any chest pain within 24 hours of the procedure.
